Bisector span vs. the disk-averaged total magnetic flux in Gauss for three representative lines. The top panel illustrates the line having the clearest change in C-shaped bisector (positive span). The bottom panel shows the line with the clearest change in reversed-C bisector (negative span). The middle panel shows a line with no change in bisector span to high precision. For all lines, we divide the bisector measurements into quiet and active phases at a boundary of 6 G. Thus, quiet bisectors (blue points) have 〈∣B∣〉 < 6 G, and active bisectors (red points) have 〈∣B∣〉 ≧ 6 G. The horizontal lines indicate the median values in each phase.
