Schematic illustration of the detected magnetic reconnection event and ensuing processes. When the magnetic loop destabilizes, magnetic energy is converted into particle kinetic energy. Some of the material in the loop is ejected as an outflow and some travels along the magnetic field lines emitting hard X-rays. When this material reaches denser regions at the loop footprints, it heats the corona, thus emitting soft X-rays. Some of the hard X-rays illuminate the disk, heating it, and enhancing its UV emission. The scales in this figure are directly derived from the time delays between different phases of the hard X-rays, soft X-rays, and UV LCs. The gravitational radius of NGC 3783 is Rg ≈ 4.1 × 1013 cm.
