Schematic diagram of the sample loading in this study. Note that the sample spacers allow for hydrogen layers to form during gas loading. The hydrogen layers then insulate the sample foil from the diamond anvils. Particles of gold and ruby were placed to the side of the sample chamber to avoid sample contamination by potential chemical reaction.
