Face-on galaxy Z2LCW at z = 2 with stars (left panel) and gas (right panel) colored with projected surface mass density. Note the central prominent bar and the two spiral arms it drives. The stellar disk is relatively “hot” (large dispersion velocities), and hence the stellar spirals are barely visible but appear prominent in the gas.
