Number density of compact E+A in the BOSS point source sample is shown in black points. The complementary sample of compact quiescent galaxies in the BOSS point source sample is shown by gray triangles. The data are corrected for spectroscopic incompleteness. They are lower limits to the true number density. Damjanov et al. (2015) measure the number density of compact galaxies (identified using the B13 classification) from publicly available data in the COSMOS field. They find that the number density of compact galaxies is 10(3.55±0.26) Mpc−3; within the uncertainties, the number density is independent of redshift for galaxies at 0.2 < z < 0.8. The dashed line shows the Damjanov et al. (2015) number density estimate. The dotted line is a linear fit (Equation (3)) to the lower limit of the number density of E+A galaxies.
