Comparison of the BHMF derived from the model with a luminosity-dependent bias (β ≠ 0, diagonal line-filled region) and without a luminosity-dependent bias (β = 0, cyan region). For simplicity, we only show one redshift for each emission line used to calculate the virial mass estimates; the omitted bins exhibit similar differences. There is no apparent difference in the BHMFs derived from the Hβ line, while the BHMFs derived from the Mg ii and C iv lines under the model with β ≠ 0 are shifted lower in M BH by ≈0.2 dex. This is a rather small difference and in general our scientific conclusions do not change when we allow a luminosity-dependent bias.
