Rest-frame UV color vs. rest-frame VJ color, a diagnostic diagram to distinguish passive and star-forming galaxies. The early-type galaxies in our sample, selected by having SED-based sSFR (= SFR/ M)<1/3 t H( z), are indicated by red symbols. These are essentially always located in the "passive box" as defined by Williams et al. (2009) as indicated by the polygons. That our selection criteria are conservative is indicated by the presence of a substantial number of objects with UV and VJ colors consistent with those of passive galaxies but with sSFR larger than our limit.
