HAWK-I K-band magnitude vs. stellar mass in three redshift bins. Early-type galaxies, selected by their low sSFR (see Section 2.5.), are indicated by red symbols. The limiting factor in selecting our sample is set by the axis-ratio estimate precision (see Figure 2), which sets our magnitude limit to K = 22 (the horizontal lines). The implication is that in our highest redshift bin we are complete down to a mass limit of log( M/ M ) ~ 10.7 (the vertical lines).
