Computed values of (a) the ratio of total-to-thermal velocity dispersion for the diffuse gas α ≡ 1 + v 2 z, diff/ v th, diff 2, (b) the square of mass-weighted thermal to warm medium thermal speed , and (c) the product f wf diff (for the warm gas mass fraction in the diffuse gas and f diff the diffuse mass fraction), as functions of Σ SFR for all models except Series R. The points and error bars give the mean and standard deviations over t/ t orb = 2–3. Over more than two orders of magnitude in Σ SFR, the balance between energy input (heating, turbulent driving) and energy output (cooling, turbulent dissipation) maintains nearly constant α = P tot/ P th and both warm and cold gas phases.
