Energy density profiles for quartz (top left), forsterite (top right), ice (bottom left), and iron (bottom right) from the 1D simulations using Spheral (solid lines) and Ares (dashed). We initialized these simulations with a 1 kt m⁻², 10 ns source positioned at normal incidence, and we show both the 1 and 2 keV blackbody temperature models in blue and green, respectively. The close match between simulations allows the Spheral simulations to be initialized with the same energy as the Ares results reported in M. T. Burkey et al. (2023).
