Where available, we use estimates of deeper subsurface dielectric permittivity values (N. E. Putzig et al. 2024a) within the latitudinal bounds of the SWIM study area. These values are derived from locations where the SHARAD instrument records subsurface radar reflections. Dark gray indicates areas with no subsurface reflections. SHARAD data coverage is not consistent across Mars’s surface; see the data coverage map (Figure 15).
