Waveform after subtraction of the unmodulated background components (from the 3C50 background, the angularly nearby AGN, and the “extra” component in Figure 8), using our best fit to the data of our model with three uniform-temperature circular spots plus a modulated power law. The upper panel shows the full bolometric waveform, whereas the lower panel shows the waveform summing NICER PI channels 250 through 299 inclusive. The modulated power law is most important in the higher-energy channels, but it also contributes nonnegligibly to the full bolometric waveform.
