Example of a pair of reference and new images generated in simulation 1 (see Table 2). The red and black crosses mark the positions of the original point sources in the reference and new images, respectively. It can be seen that the translation is a 1 pixel translation (diagonally), which is considerably smaller than the width of the PSFs and that the Gaussian PSF profile of the new image differs from that of the reference image by a 90◦ rotation.
