Metallicity distribution function of the securely identified M31 red giants in our sample, based on interpolating the locations of the stars in the CMD within a fine grid of stellar isochrones for t = 10 Gyr and [α/Fe] =0.0. The MDF has a strong peak at [Fe/H] =−0.4 with a significant, extended tail to metal-poor values.
