Velocity of the innermost fragment of a cloud is plotted vs. its distance from the original inner edge of the cloud. The clump of lowest resolution (C4) did not fragment, but did lose mass continuously in a tail. The different symbols refer to the number of cells in the radius of the original clump. For the clumps of highest and lowest resolution the data points have been connected with a line. The smooth continuous line corresponds to the expected velocity for an unfragmented clump according to eq. (13).
