Trace ﹩S_{r}( \lambda ,m) ﹩ of the spectrum along the line in the upper panel of Fig. 1. The velocity label ﹩v=-115\ \mathrm{km}\,\ \mathrm{s}\,^{-1}﹩ corresponds to the position of the marked set of five lines at this redshift. In this set the [S II] doublet is unresolved and so is the weak H α line, but the corresponding [N II] doublet is wide. The other wide [S II] doublet in the spectrum is at the redshift ﹩814\ \mathrm{km}\,\ \mathrm{s}\,^{-1}﹩ (to the right of the corresponding marked doublet) and is ~﹩150\ \mathrm{km}\,\ \mathrm{s}\,^{-1}﹩ wide. Note that our spectral resolution of ﹩16\ \mathrm{km}\,\ \mathrm{s}\,^{-1}﹩ is not sufficient to show thermal broadening of Hα or any other line at expected temperatures of 7500 K.
