SCF vs. Q in the model of Gaussian velocity profiles. The continuous line is the analytic maximum SCF as a function of Q, derived under the assumption that neighboring spectra are identical, apart from differences due only to instrumental noise. The analytic function ﹩1-1/ Q﹩ provides an excellent fit to the Gaussian model.
