Distributions of s2ω are shown for LPCs making perihelion passages inside 4 au with a > 104 au (blue) and 103 au < a < 104 au (orange). Observed distributions (thick solid lines) are compared against simulated LPCs from Flyby_6310 that make perihelion passages 2–3 Myr after the HD 7977 flyby. Two different comet fading laws are assumed: a Whipple-like fading (dashed), and a bimodal fading (thin solid).
