Schematic illustration of the proposed obscuration geometry in NGC 3227. A dense, Compton-thick obscuring structure located interior to the BLR rises above the accretion disk, blocking the ionizing continuum before it reaches the BLR while also attenuating the observed 5100 Å optical continuum along our line of sight.
