Crab, Cyg X-1, and Cen A data selections binned into 30 minutes time bins (gray). A background-fitted tracer is then applied to the data (red), and background time nodes are then applied to the data to account for the constantly changing background (vertical black dashed lines). Note that the total number of counts in each time bin results in drops when the pointing cut is applied. These then serve as natural time nodes for rescaling the background.
