Entropy and compressibility results for Earth and Mars reflectance time series at three different wavelengths. Metrics shown are the Shannon entropy of the time series on the x-axis, ZIP compressibility ratio (compressed file size divided by original file size so that higher values correspond to higher algorithmic complexity) on the y-axis and JDE on the z-axis. Horizontal and vertical lines are plotted emanating from each point to aid visualization, in addition to translucent planes showing the heights of the summed JDE values for Earth and Mars, respectively. Ellipsoids emanating from Mars data points correspond to the respective uncertainties (Earth uncertainties were found to be negligible; see Section 2.3 for details).
