The observed average velocity dispersion gradients ﹩\tfrac{\partial {\sigma }_{\mathrm{LOS}}(r)}{\partial r}﹩, obtained from a linear fit to the observed radial dispersion profile, plotted against the 3D, log-linear, stellar mass-to-light ratio gradients of the dynamical models. The gradients were calibrated in the z band for a consistent quantitative comparison.
