90% confidence contours (4.61 above the minimum value of −2 ln likelihood) for the two interesting parameters of mean spectral index and intrinsic dispersion. A comparison between the 7 quasars at z > 1.5 and the 44 at 0.2 < z < 1.5 finds a less than 1% probability that they are drawn from the same parent distribution.
