Global explosion criteria for s15 (left) and s27 (right). The top panel shows the antesonic ratio of Pejcha & Thompson (2012), and the bottom panel displays the ratio of advection time through the gain region to heating time (e.g., Thompson 2000; Janka 2001; Thompson et al. 2005). Because the original derivation of the antesonic ratio only considered the postshock accretion flow above the PNS, we only compute this criterion beyond a radius of 60 km. For multidimensional simulations, both criteria predict fairly well which models will explode. In particular, models that fail to explode remain well away from the critical thresholds, denoted by the yellow dotted lines in each plot.
