HST GHRS spectrum of T1214−277 around the Lyα line. A strong Lyα emission line with an equivalent width of 70 Å is seen. There is also a conspicuous N V λ1240 line with a P Cygni profile (dashed vertical line), which suggests the presence of very massive stars (M gsim 60 M). Prominent heavy element interstellar absorption lines both in T1214−277 and the Galaxy are identified. Note also the velocity splitting of the heavy element interstellar absorption lines S II λ1259, Si II λ1260, and primarily C II λ1335, indicating fast gas motions with velocities ~950 km s−1. The strong emission at λ1302 is due to the O I night skyline. Superposed on it are the Galactic interstellar absorption lines O I λ1302 and Si II λ1304.
