HST GHRS spectrum of SBS 0335−052 around the Lyα line. A strong damped Lyα absorption is seen along with several heavy element interstellar absorption lines. The adopted continuum is shown by the straight line and our best fit to the Lyα profile is shown by the solid line. The fit is the sum of the absorption profile from the Galaxy (dotted line) [N(H I) = 4.6 × 1020 cm−2] and that from SBS 0335−052 (dashdotted line) [N(H I) = (7.0 ± 0.5) × 1021 cm−2]. Prominent heavy element interstellar absorption lines in SBS 0335−052 are identified. Galactic interstellar absorption lines shortward of 1260 Å are also identified.
