HST GHRS spectrum of Tol 65 around the Lyα line. A strong damped Lyα absorption line is seen. The adopted continuum is shown by the straight line, and the best fit to the Lyα profile is shown by the solid line. The fit is the sum of the absorption profile of the Galaxy (dotted line) [N(H I) = 5.5 × 1020 cm−2] and that of Tol 65 (dashdotted line) [N(H I) = (2.5 ± 1.0) × 1021 cm−2]. Prominent heavy element interstellar absorption lines both in Tol 65 and the Galaxy are identified. The emission line at λ1302 is the night‐sky O I emission line. On top of it are the Galactic interstellar absorption O I λ1302 and Si II λ1304 lines.
