Values of hardness (H) and reduced elastic modulus (Er) for each individual nanoindentation performed in this work (filled squares, Nakhla and ALHA77005 shergottite), for olivines (left) and pyroxenes (right). Ellipses describe the 2σ regions, constructed from a bivariate normal fit, where nanoindentations of NWA 12008 lunar meteorite and terrestrial olivine, measured under the same experimental conditions, are found (P. Grèbol-Tomàs et al. 2025). The histograms on the top and right axes of the plots show the respective marginal distributions for all datasets obtained under the same experimental conditions. Empty circles in shades of gray show data from other lunaites (E. Peña-Asensio et al. 2024), as well as lunar Chang’e-5 returned samples from J. Nie et al. (2023; maximum load of 50 mN) and S. Qiao et al. (2026). Finally, empty crosses in shades of green show data from Chelyabinsk (scatter plot for olivine, mean value for pyroxene; C. E. Moyano-Cambero et al. 2017) and Aba Panu (T.-J. Huang et al. 2023) ordinary chondrites, and also returned samples from asteroid (25143) Itokawa (only for olivines; S. Tanbakouei et al. 2019). The purple triangle represents the pyroxene values for the NWA 6013 diogenite (E. Peña-Asensio et al. 2024). These literature experimental values were measured under different experimental parameters than those in this work and their error bars correspond to standard deviations.
