We recover distances to 20 asteroids with synthetic data taken from Horizons. Each asteroid has six observations taken during 1 night, and every observation is separated by 45 minutes on 2024 September 5–6, from 23:43:00 to 03:28:10. (Top) Measured distance (au) versus true distance (au) for all 20 asteroids considered in this analysis. The left panel shows results from using Equation (1), and the right panel shows those from Equation (5). (Bottom) For the 20 asteroids, the fractional residual is defined in Equation (6a).
