Steady‐state energy flux balance is illustrated for (a) case TUR and (b) case LAM. As indicated, each plot includes the horizontally averaged luminosity corresponding to the convective enthalpy flux ﹩F_{e}﹩, the convective kinetic energy flux ﹩F_{k}﹩, the radiative flux ﹩F_{r}﹩, and the unresolved eddy flux, ﹩F_{u}﹩, as defined in eqs. (9)–(12). The sum of these four components is shown as a solid line. All curves are normalized with respect to the solar luminosity, ﹩L_{\odot }=3.84\times 10^{33}﹩ ergs s−1.
