Dependence of the interacting-ion angular distribution on magnetic convergence (δ) and PAS (λ). μ = cos ψi where ψi is the angle between the normal to the solar surface and the direction of the ion. ψi = 0° (μ = 1) is directed outward from the Sun, ψi = 180° (μ = −1) is directed inward into the Sun, and ψi = 90° (μ = 0) is directed parallel to the surface of the Sun. The cyan histogram represents an isotropic distribution which cannot be produced by the loop model. The distributions are normalized to unity.
