Initial density profiles of dark matter halos (see § A1). Thin lines (the higher of each of the three sets of lines) are proportional to the two‐point correlation function and represent the density run averaged around local density maxima or minima in the initial Gaussian random field. The solid, short‐dashed, and long‐dashed lines represent 2, 3, and 4 σ peaks, respectively. The thick lines are density profiles around maxima only and are used as the initial profiles of protohalos in our computations.
