Comparison of magnetic force for different field strengths (B = 0.5, 50 and 200 μT) with Psyche gravitational force (g) for different particle sizes. We assume a particle density (ρ) of 5000 kg m−3 and a magnetic susceptibility (χ) of 20, which is the value assumed for high-susceptible. Magnetic force is calculated using the empirical formula for force between two particles given by A. Sikka et al. (2023). The black vertical line shows the particle size where the gravitational force is equal to the magnetic force for a 50 μT field. Particle sizes smaller than this line are more susceptible to magnetic cohesion. We simulate the parameter space shown in the shaded region by scaling the magnetic field strength for a fixed particle size of 10 mm.
