Caption: Figure 3.

Analysis of four snapshots from the simulation at 4000 K and 75 GPa. The four snapshots follow each other during two C–Fe stretching vibrations, and are separated by a few dozen femtoseconds. The upper row shows the cross-sectional view of four snapshots. We focused on one region with a suspected bond between C and Fe. Arrows highlight the distance between C and Fe. The lower row shows the ELF profile associated with C and Fe. For readability, the y-axis scale differs across profiles. The visualization is realized using the VESTA software (K. Momma & F. Izumi 2011). The profiles of ELF values between C and Fe have been computed using the software CRITIC2 (A. Otero-de-la Roza et al. 2009) for each snapshot. The drawings below the ELF maps represent the chemical species observed.
