Stellar mass evolution of the studied galaxy as a function of redshift. An intense phase of mergers takes place between z = 5 and z = 3. The subsequent evolution is much smoother, dominated by diffuse gas infall: the most important merger of this second phase takes place at z = 0.8 with a mass ratio of 6:1.
