Horizontal cut across the image in Figure  4. The cut represents the average of three lines centered on Fomalhaut  b, where the center line is 10 farcs00 above the stellar position. The x-axis plots the position relative to the star. This horizontal cut passes through a range of radii from the star. Therefore the residual speckle noise is prominent in the range −5 farcs0 to 5 farcs0. However, Fomalhaut  b is a prominent feature relative to the local noise in the region ~13'' radius from the star.
