Comparison of L(12) and L(TIR). The most deviant low point (NGC 1316) has been excluded from the fit. The slope is significantly different from one ( L(TIR) = 1.479 × 10 ⁻⁷ L(12) ^1.18) and there are indications of an overall curvature, with a lower ratio of L(12)/ L(TIR) at high luminosity. Symbols are as for Figure 13.
