Photo of a shared APOGEE/MARVELS plugplate (plate #5632), as marked for plate plugging. This particular plate is for a field featuring the globular cluster M3, whose position on the plate can be identified by the concentration of fiber holes to the lower left. The holes connected by the zigzagging tracings mark those associated with MARVELS, whereas the red, green, and blue circled holes show those intended for the bright, medium, and faint APOGEE fibers, respectively. The latter holes are grouped into small “zones” (indicated by the irregularly shaped, closed loops) by the pluggers as a way to organize areas on the plate anticipated to be serviced by fibers in a single anchor block (having two red, two green, and two blue fibers each).
