Using the Millennium simulation, the fraction of companions which are close in three dimensions (﹩f_{3\mathrm{D}\,}﹩) is plotted vs. absolute magnitude for close pairs (﹩5{\mbox{--}} 20\ h^{-1}﹩ kpc). Projection effects are seen to increase toward fainter absolute magnitudes.
