Comparison of the gas temperature and the excitation temperature of CO in a stable, starless, thermally subcritical cores. Because of the low mass of this model (1 ﹩M_{\odot }﹩), the core is truncated at a high enough density that the excitation temperature of the CO remains close to the gas temperature up to the boundary. Parameters are listed in Table 1.
