Comparison of the temperature of thermally supercritical cores, with and without variable CO abundances. Although the abundance variations affect the molecular line cooling rate, where the abundance is most reduced the cooling is dominated by the dust or C+ rather than the molecular lines. The relative abundance of CO has been multiplied by 10 so that a value of 10 means undepleted. Parameters are listed in Table 1.
