Shadowing filament and nearby sky in this infrared map made from DIRBE‐corrected IRAS 100 μm data. The filament runs diagonally across the upper right portion of the image. During the "shadowed" observation, FUSE was pointed toward the most opaque portion of the filament (278.6°, −45.3°, within the upper circle). During the "unshadowed" observation, FUSE was pointed toward a low‐opacity region just off of the filament (278.7°, −47.1°, within the lower circle). The FUSE LWRS aperture measures ﹩30^{\prime \prime }\times 30^{\prime \prime }﹩and thus a small fraction of the size of the overlaid circles.
