Histograms of z surface brightness for objects in VCC 1226 (solid line) and VCC 798 (dotted line). Expected background galaxy contamination as measured in the custom control fields has been subtracted. As in Fig. 1, compared to VCC 1226, VCC 798 has a large population of star clusters with lower surface brightnesses (﹩z\gtrsim 19﹩ mag arcsec⁻²).
