Chandra ACIS‐S soft (0.3–2 keV) band X‐ray image of the central region of M51. The image was adaptively smoothed to achieve a signal‐to‐noise ratio in the range 3–5 and is plotted in logarithmic gray scale. The position of SN 1994I is marked by a box, and the nucleus of M51 is at the center of the image.
