Caption: Fig. 1.

(a) Soft X‐ray image taken with the thin aluminum filter. The pixel size is 4﹩\farcs﹩9, and the field of view is 10﹩\farcm﹩5 × 10﹩\farcm﹩5 (128 × 128 pixels). East is to the left, and north is up. The solar equator is located in between the two active regions. (b) Temperature map obtained with a pair of broadband filters (thin aluminum and Al/Mg filter) for the box region of panel (a). The pixel size is the same (4﹩\farcs﹩9), and the field of view is 2﹩\arcmin﹩ × 2﹩\arcmin﹩ (24 × 24 pixels). Fifteen hours of data (0–15 UT, 1992 March 28; ~40 image data each for two filters) are summed to obtain the temperatures of the region outside the active regions. (c) Narrowband optical image taken with Yohkoh. (d) Longitudinal magnetograph image (National Solar Observatory/Kitt Peak). The gray scale indicates the polarity and the magnitude of the longitudinal magnetic fields.
