Schematics showing shapes of high mass flux disks based on vertical structure simulations. Upper panel: disk in quiescent phase; lower panel: disk in outburst. Outer disks are identical to each other, and their shapes are similar to the pattern outlined for T Tauri systems (Fig. 1). In the inner disk in outburst, additional inflections are introduced by changes in the temperature dependence of the opacity owing to the ionization of hydrogen. Most of the luminosity of the system is emitted by the surfaces of the steeply sloping "volcano" region.
