Carbon yields (M12C in solar masses) from stars of different masses. The large allowed range in the yields between 3–8 M in Renzini & Voli (1981) is due to the uncertainty in the extent of hot bottom burning; α = 1.5 and 0 correspond to efficient or no hot bottom burning, respectively.
