Line emission image of η Car obtained through the F658N filter. This filter passes intrinsic [N II] λ6583, as well as redshifted (mostly scattered) Hα. The intensity stretch is between 4.0 × 10⁻¹⁹ ergs cm⁻² s⁻¹ Å⁻¹ (black) and 4.0 × 10⁻¹⁴ ergs cm⁻² s⁻¹ Å⁻¹ (white). The complex outer debris surrounding the Homunculus are visible only in line emission. Note the long, narrow whiskers in the northwest and southeast quadrants, the most prominent of which are labeled (see also Table 2).
