2D cut along the plane z = 0 of the 3D MHD simulation with S = 105β = 2.0, Prm = 1.0, and initial perturbation of Pinj = 0.1, and kinj = 128. The time depicted is t = 3.0 tA. In our 3D simulation, we do not observe the formation, merging, and growth of the magnetic islands into huge plasmoids, which is usually seen in 2D MHD simulations (e.g., A. Bhattacharjee et al. 2009; Y.-M. Huang & A. Bhattacharjee 2010). An animation of the complete view of the entire evolution is available in the online Journal. The animated version shows the evolution from t = 0.0to3.0 tA.
