Probability distributions (PDFs) for those parameters that we used as criteria for dwarf/giant separation, i.e., Na doublet EW, ﹩V-i^{\prime }﹩ color, and radial velocity. The dashed lines each indicate the empirical PDFs defined by the full training samples, while the solid histograms were separated by applying the respective criteria to our full data. Thin and thick lines discriminate between dwarf and giant samples, respectively. Despite a considerable overlap in each individual indicator, the statistical combination of all three pieces of information allows for removing dwarfs efficiently. The bottom right panel shows the ratio of giant to dwarf stars thus separated for each field. See text for details.
